Lunch in Avila

Hi everyone!

One place I went to visit whilst staying in Madrid is Avila which is a small town just over an hour away from Madrid.

One of the most impressive things about this town was the huge medieval wall which surrounds it which means you can see it from miles away.

I was so excited to have a look around this old Spanish town and it didn't disappoint! We parked on the outside of the high walls and walked through a massive arch into the town.

The streets were really cute and pebbled and there was lots of Roman-looking architecture which was so pretty!

We had actually come to Avila as a stop-off on our way to Salamanca but I'm so glad we visited it because it was so much fun having a look round. We stopped off for some lunch which was super yummy but it was so hot and we were frying alive in the sun!

The thing I found weird about the cathedral was how Gothic it looked because all the other buildings looked so Roman. The cathedral was very impressive but unfortunately there was some building work going on so I wasn't able to see all of it completely.

We didn't go inside the cathedral but we did see a wedding party leaving the cathedral after the service and taking all the pictures in front of the cathedral which was fun to watch.

The last thing that I vividly remember about Avila is the weird door handle above. It kind of reminded me a bit of Snow White with the apple but I thought it was both creepy and cool so I loved it!

I hope you enjoyed this relatively short post about Avila. It was such a fun place to visit but obviously it wasn't massive so if you're thinking of going to visit I would suggest going for a couple of hours on the way to somewhere else (like Salamanca which is where we headed).

Madrid by Sunset

Hi everyone!

So this evening the amazingly lovely family I am staying with took my into the centre of Madrid for dinner and a cheeky bit of sightseeing! They told me that in the day time there is no one but tourists in the city because it is so hot, but at nighttime the atmosphere is amazing because there are so many people (locals and tourists!).

The first place we went to was described to me as the 'Leicester Square' of Madrid and it is also where the New Years' Eve celebrations take place every year. When we were there we literally had to battle the crowds because it was so busy!

We started walking through the streets towards La Plaza Mayor and there was so much to look at and all the buildings were so pretty and Spanishy.

Unfortunately la Plaza Mayor was having some reconstruction done so half of it was covered by a sheet, but the rest was there and the walls were covered with paintings.

Whilst we were there we watched an act by a man called Mierdo who was Argentinian and he played some music and told some jokes. There was a lot of crowd participation so I was really worried that he would pick me because he seemed to be choosing all the foreigners who didn't understand so I just slowly backed away and hid behind everyone and luckily I wasn't chosen - phew!

After having dinner at an Italian restaurant we went on a walk past the opera and theatres as the sun was setting.

All in all it was the perfect evening and one of my favourite night's so far!

Wimbledon Final Tea Party

Hi everyone!

So despite Murray not making the final of Wimbledon this year I was still really excited to watch it as Wimbledon is one of my favourite things to watch in the summer.

My sister and I decided to make an event of it so we did a homemade afternoon tea.

We made sandwiches, scones and bought a mini quiche lorraine from M&S (although this was technically cheating as it wasn't homemade we couldn't resist it when we saw it!)

It actually took longer to make than we originally thought so we watched most of the first set whilst we were baking, but we caught the crucial end sets!

This was such a fun day and cost almost nothing at all so if you wanted an afternoon tea without paying the expensive prices in cafes then this is perfect and a nice summery thing to do!

Brighton Day Trip

Hi everyone!

Whilst doing exams and becoming increasingly bored, my sister and I decided to plan some things to do in the summer and a day trip to Brighton was a definite must. We went last year with some friends and enjoyed in so much so we thought we just had to come back!

After getting the train we walked out to blue skies and blazing sun so we first walked along the promenade and headed for the pier.

We could see the beach was fast filling up with people and the seagulls were out already being a nuisance.

One of the things I love most about Brighton is it's ability to be both an old-fashioned seaside town and a modern town with lots to do.

When we got to the pier we went inside the Arcade and played a few of the games - we didn't manage to win any though!

We spent a while watching people play games and going on rides.

While looking for somewhere to have lunch we walked past Brighton Pavilion and stopped to take a few photos.

We knew we wanted to have lunch in the Lanes because they are so cute and there are so many individual cafes to choose from.

We both chose a bacon, mushroom and cheese toastie and then after looking in some of the shops, we went back to the beach for some banana-flavoured ice cream - yummy!

We felt really weary from the heat so we went to the cinema to see Jurassic World which we had seen before but LOVED so we went to see it and fell in love with Chris Pratt all over again! If anyone hasn't seen it I would definitely recommend it because it is amazing (and this is coming from someone who has no particular interest in dinosaurs at all). You don't need to see the previous Jurassic Park films to see it so go now and enjoy!

We came out of the cinema super hungry so we grabbed some pizza in a restaurant just next to the cinema called Nuposto before heading back home on the train.

Brighton is such a fun place (especially in the summertime) so if you're thinking of going then I would say definitely go!
